About

Gene Roth

I write thrillers from Atlanta, Georgia. 7 are published. They are about measurement, evidence, custody of records, and the moment a description of the world stops matching the world.

The books

Each novel starts somewhere real: a Cold War waste site in Missouri, a reprocessed satellite altimetry record over the eastern Atlantic, a spent rocket stage striking the far side of the Moon, a collapse at the Great Blue Hole. The story is fiction. The thing that started it is not.

The day job

Before this, and still alongside it, I spent fifteen years inside federal regulatory systems, most recently as the FAA Director of National External Operations, Policy & Compliance Programs. That work is fifteen years of watching careful people make defensible decisions from incomplete records, and then live with what those decisions do to somebody else.

It is not really a separate interest from the fiction. Both start with a record, a measurement, and the point at which the two stop agreeing. The consulting practice lives at generoth.com.
